Google Tests AI Summaries on News Publisher Pages: Google has launched a pilot program that adds AI-generated article overviews to select publishers’ Google News pages, giving readers extra context before clicking into a story. Participating outlets include The Guardian, El País, The Washington Post, and others, all of which will receive direct payments from Google to offset any potential drop in traffic. The company says the goal is to experiment with new features that drive more engaged audiences, while also expanding tools like audio briefings, preferred news sources, and enhanced link context across its platforms.
Report Claims DeepSeek Used Smuggled Nvidia Chips for New AI Model: A new report from The Information says Chinese AI startup DeepSeek used Nvidia’s Blackwell chips, which are banned in China, to develop its next AI model by sourcing hardware that was smuggled in from overseas data centers. The alleged workaround highlights how Chinese developers are finding ways around U.S. export restrictions, although Nvidia says it has not seen any evidence to support the report. DeepSeek, which gained attention earlier this year for releasing a low-cost model competitive with top Silicon Valley systems, says it is also working with domestic chipmakers as China pushes for greater self-reliance in AI hardware.
Starcloud Trains an AI Model in Space: Starcloud says it successfully trained an AI model in space using an Nvidia H100 GPU that was launched into orbit last month. The company trained a lightweight NanoGPT model on Shakespeare’s works and even ran Google’s open-source Gemma model, creating what they describe as a chatbot in space. Starcloud views this milestone as the first step toward building space-based data centers that could use abundant solar energy and reduce the strain AI puts on Earth’s power grid.

ChatGPT Tops Apple’s Most-Downloaded Apps of 2025

Bet you didn’t see this one coming…. Apple just dropped its annual list of the most-downloaded apps, and ChatGPT took (you guessed it) the No. 1 spot for free iPhone apps in the U.S. this year. The AI app jumped ahead of TikTok, Instagram, and even Google Maps, showing just how much AI has woven itself into our everyday lives. Last year, it was sitting at No. 4, and now it’s on top which definitely signals a shift in how people are using their phones and who’s challenging Google’s search dominance on mobile. In other words, more folks are chatting with an AI before they do just about anything else.
