Google Adds Gemini-Powered Insights to Trends Explore: Google has rolled out a redesigned Trends Explore page that uses Gemini to automatically surface and compare trends tied to a user’s search, reducing the need for manual digging. The update adds a smart side panel, suggested prompts, and a refreshed visual layout that makes it easier to compare more terms and spot rising searches at a glance. For anyone who relies on Google Trends to research ideas, the new experience makes finding useful connections faster and more intuitive.
Gemini Introduces Personal Intelligence Across Google Apps: Google is rolling out a new Gemini beta that can tailor responses by reasoning across your Gmail, Photos, Search, and YouTube history, allowing it to connect context without explicit instructions. The feature, called Personal Intelligence, is opt-in and designed to surface more relevant, proactive answers, like pulling details from an email or photo when they’re genuinely useful. Google says the system includes guardrails for sensitive topics and references personal data only to generate responses, not to train the model itself.
Lawmakers Push Back on Nvidia AI Chip Sales to China: U.S. lawmakers and former officials are raising alarms after the Trump administration approved Nvidia sales of its H200 AI chips to China, arguing the move could weaken America’s AI advantage and boost Beijing’s military capabilities. Critics, including former White House Asia advisor Matt Pottinger, warned that advanced AI chips could accelerate China’s progress in areas like cyber warfare, autonomous weapons, and intelligence operations. The administration says new guardrails limit risk, but skeptics argue the policy relies too heavily on enforcement and trust while reopening a door that had previously been shut for national security reasons.

New Study Flags Big Questions About AI in Education

A new global study from the Brookings Institution examined how generative AI is affecting K–12 students because the technology is being adopted in classrooms faster than its long-term impact can be measured. Researchers analyzed hundreds of studies and spoke with students, parents, teachers, and experts across 50 countries to weigh the benefits against the risks. Their conclusion was that while AI can support learning and reduce teacher workload, it is also weakening critical thinking, emotional development, and equity, with the risks currently outweighing the benefits.
What the study found works
AI can help students with reading, writing, and language learning when used as support
Teachers can save significant time on lesson planning, emails, and materials
AI tools can improve accessibility for students with learning differences
Where the risks outweigh the benefits
Students rely on AI for answers instead of learning how to think
Critical thinking, creativity, and problem-solving skills decline
Emotional and social development suffer when AI replaces real interaction
Wealthier schools get better tools, widening the education gap
The takeaway is simple. AI can be useful in education, but only when it supports human learning instead of replacing it.
That’s a Wrap for Today 👋
