Meta Levels Up Instagram Stories with AI Editing: Instagram Stories now lets users edit photos and videos with simple text prompts adding, removing, or changing elements without needing the Meta AI chatbot. These new tools, including preset effects like outfit swaps or snow in videos, live under the “Restyle” menu. But using them means agreeing to Meta’s AI Terms, allowing the platform to analyze facial features and generate new content from your images.
Amazon’s New AI Shopping Assistant: “Help Me Decide”: Amazon launched a feature that analyzes your browsing and purchase behavior to recommend products tailored to what you’re looking for and explain why they fit your needs. It shows up after you’ve compared similar items and can stick to your price range or suggest cheaper or pricier options. The tool uses Amazon’s AI systems and is rolling out now across the Amazon app and website in the U.S.
Snapchat Opens Its AI Image Lens to Everyone: Snapchat’s “Imagine Lens,” which lets users create or transform images with custom prompts, is now free for all users after previously being limited to paid subscribers. The tool can generate playful edits like turning a selfie into an alien or testing Halloween looks, with results easily shared across the app. Free users get a limited number of creations as Snapchat ramps up availability globally to compete with AI features from Meta and others.

AI Security Gone Wrong

A Baltimore County high school just learned the hard way that tech isn’t flawless. A student at Kenwood High was handcuffed and searched all because an AI system thought his Doritos bag was a gun. He says he was simply holding his chips when school officials ordered him to the ground and cuffed him. The principal later admitted there was a gun alert that had actually been canceled, but the situation still spiraled into a police response. The company behind the AI tool expressed regret but also claimed the system “worked as intended.” If that was the intended outcome, we’ve got a serious problem with who we’re letting make safety decisions.
That’s a Wrap for Today 👋
