GM Plans 2028 Launch for Hands-Free, Eyes-Off Driving: General Motors announced plans to debut an “eyes-off, hands-off” automated driving system in 2028, starting with the Cadillac Escalade IQ. The new technology builds on GM’s existing Super Cruise system but will rely on lidar, radar, and cameras to navigate highways without constant driver supervision. Drawing from its former Cruise robotaxi division’s AI and engineering expertise, GM aims to outpace rivals like Tesla and Mercedes by delivering true Level 3 automation at scale.
Netflix Doubles Down on Using AI to Boost Creativity: Netflix says it’s “all in” on generative AI, positioning the technology as a tool to help filmmakers work faster and smarter rather than replace them. CEO Ted Sarandos emphasized that AI can enhance storytelling but can’t substitute for creative talent, pointing to recent projects like The Eternaut and Happy Gilmore 2 that used AI for visual effects. While Hollywood debates the ethical and job-related risks of AI, Netflix is betting on it as a behind-the-scenes ally to push production quality and efficiency forward.
YouTube Rolls Out AI Likeness-Detection Tool to Creators: YouTube has officially launched its likeness-detection technology to eligible creators, allowing them to identify and request the removal of AI-generated videos that mimic their face or voice. The tool, now available to members of the YouTube Partner Program, aims to combat misuse of creators’ likenesses for false endorsements or misinformation.

Meta Cuts Around 600 AI Jobs Amid Superintelligence Push

Meta Platforms is planning to eliminate approximately 600 jobs within its AI division, Meta Superintelligence Labs (MSL), as part of a broader effort to streamline its push into advanced AI. The cuts will impact units such as its research arm Facebook Artificial Intelligence Research (FAIR), products, and infrastructure, though the newly created “TBD” team focused on large language models remains unaffected. CEO Mark Zuckerberg and Chief AI Officer Alexandr Wang say this move addresses “organizational bloat” that slowed decision-making after a massive hiring surge. The company insists investments in superintelligence remain a top priority despite the layoffs.
