Wikipedia Sets Boundaries for AI Use: Wikipedia is asking AI developers to use its content “responsibly,” giving proper credit and accessing data through its paid Wikimedia Enterprise platform rather than scraping its site. The Wikimedia Foundation revealed that AI bots had been mimicking human users, causing inflated traffic while actual human visits fell 8% year-over-year. The organization says responsible AI use and attribution are essential to maintain trust, support its nonprofit mission, and ensure volunteers continue enriching the platform.

OpenAI Urges U.S. Support for AI Infrastructure Expansion: OpenAI is asking the federal government to expand the Advanced Manufacturing Investment Credit to include AI data centers, servers, and grid components, aiming to reduce costs and speed up construction. In a letter to the White House, the company also proposed streamlining environmental reviews and creating a strategic reserve of critical materials like copper and rare earths. CEO Sam Altman clarified that OpenAI isn’t seeking government bailouts or guarantees but emphasized the need for policies that accelerate America’s AI infrastructure growth as the company projects massive revenue and investment over the next decade.

Amazon Launches AI Translation Tool for Kindle Authors: Amazon has introduced Kindle Translate, a new AI-powered translation tool for authors using Kindle Direct Publishing, starting with English-Spanish and German-English translations. The feature, currently in beta, aims to help writers reach global audiences, addressing the fact that fewer than 5% of Amazon titles are available in multiple languages. While authors can preview translations before publishing, Amazon acknowledges that human review may still be needed for accuracy, though the tool is free and integrated into existing KDP programs like Kindle Unlimited and KDP Select.

A new report from the Center for Security Policy warns that artificial intelligence has become the modern-day “Cold War” battleground between the United States and China. The report claims the Chinese Communist Party is on the verge of overtaking the U.S. in AI development, which could shift global power by 2030 and downgrade America to a “second-rate power.” It argues that while U.S.-built AI generally follows moral and ethical guardrails, China’s systems are driven by ideology and control raising concerns about global tech standards being set by Beijing. The report also cautions that China’s growing influence could flood the world with cheap, high-quality AI, crush U.S. companies, and supercharge China’s military through autonomous weapons and robotic soldiers. Author J. Michael Waller calls the threat “existential,” warning that if China dominates AI, it could control the hardware, the markets, and ultimately, the rules that define the future.
