ChatGPT Just Released GPT-5.5: OpenAI just introduced GPT-5.5, a major upgrade designed to handle complex, multi-step tasks with far less guidance. Instead of needing step-by-step prompts, it can plan, use tools, and work through tasks like coding, research, and data analysis on its own. The biggest shift is in how independently it operates, especially in areas like software development and knowledge work, where it can stay on task longer and complete work end-to-end. It’s also more efficient, delivering stronger results while using fewer resources compared to earlier versions.Early feedback suggests it behaves less like a simple assistant and more like a system that can take ownership of tasks.
Meta Cuts 10% of Workforce as AI Spending Surges: Meta is laying off about 8,000 employees, roughly 10% of its workforce, as the cost of building out AI keeps climbing. Microsoft is also offering buyouts to some employees, joining Amazon, Google, and Oracle in cutting roles across Big Tech. Companies are pouring hundreds of billions into AI infrastructure, and those costs are now showing up in their headcount decisions.
Google Just Turned Workspace Into an AI Assistant for Your Job: Google rolled out a wave of AI updates to Workspace, aiming to automate everyday tasks like emails, documents, and spreadsheets so people spend less time on busy work. A new system called Workspace Intelligence connects across Gmail, Docs, Sheets, and more to help write, organize, and even build things for you based on your own data. The biggest upgrades are in Sheets and Docs, where AI can now create spreadsheets from a prompt, fill in data faster, and write or edit content in your voice. The bigger picture is clear: Google is turning the tools people already use at work into built-in AI assistants, while racing against Microsoft and others to own the future of how work gets done.
