Instagram’s Adam Mosseri: AI Will Redefine Creativity, But Also Blur Reality

At the Bloomberg Screentime conference, Instagram chief Adam Mosseri said AI is rewriting who gets to be creative, giving everyday people the ability to produce high-quality content without massive budgets or teams. But with that opportunity comes risk. Mosseri acknowledged that AI will also empower bad actors, warning that kids today must learn not to trust something just because it’s on video. He likened AI’s impact to how the internet democratized publishing, reducing distribution costs to zero, but now AI is doing the same for content creation itself. While creators like MrBeast fear AI could threaten jobs, Mosseri believes most will use it to enhance their work, not replace it. Still, he admitted Meta’s attempts to label AI-generated posts have been flawed, and society as a whole will need to adapt. “My kids will have to grow up knowing that not everything they see online actually happened,” he said, a reminder that the next era of creativity will demand both innovation and skepticism.
